On the 27th of June 2019 cPanel announced a new account based pricing model which basically changed the way customers are billed and resulted in a price increase up to ~2000%. The official announcement is available at https://blog.cpanel.com/announcing-account-based-pricing/
While the hosting industry expected the price increase, no one imagined that the model will get changed and cPanel users will not be able to create unlimited accounts on their cPanel servers without paying for it. That change affects the whole hosting industry because nowadays cPanel is the most used control panel. I’ll try to explain below how that change affects each of the hosting segments using cPanel.
Everyone knows that shared hosting, reseller hosting, vps hosting and dedicated hosting costs will increase. Everyone will be affected differently depending on the number of accounts they have on their servers. Every hosting company will have to pay $0.20 for each account over 100 on each cPanel server they run. The new prices get into effect on the 1st of September 2019. At http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1770316 there is a long discussion going where you can see many CEO’s of hosting companies mad with the change and looking for alternatives as all reputable hosting companies switched to virtual machines and the new pricing model will result in a huge increase which is in times higher than what providers used to pay.
For now Omni Links is not changing prices as cPanel may decide to revert the price increase to some extent due to the huge grievance from the whole hosting industry. Depending on their decision we are going to announce how our customers get affected by the change and what options do they have should they decide not to pay the cPanel price increase.
Omni Links has disabled the billing cycles longer than 1 month until we know what is going to happen as cPanel evaluates all the feedback after the announcement. All hosting services have been switched to monthly billing until then.
Shared Hosting
Shared hosting prices will increase because the base cPanel license will now cost 250% more per server plus $0.20 for each account over 100. The increase will not be significant in the shared hosting segment as Omni Links will absorb as much as possible to reduce the price increase impact for our customers.
Reseller Hosting
Reseller hosting servers host many accounts because this type of hosting is suitable mainly for small websites and resellers tend to create many accounts. The new cPanel pricing model will make resellers pay $0.20 more for each of the accounts they created. We will wait and see if cPanel keeps that new model or decide to make a change. Then we will have more information about how the cPanel price increase will affect the reseller hosting customers of Omni Links.
The new account based pricing model of cPanel will put an end to the “unlimited reseller hosting” plans. Every webhosting company which offers cPanel reseller hosting will impose limits on the number of accounts that can be created in each reseller hosting plan.
VPS Hosting
You will not be affected and your price will not increase if you host up to 5 accounts on your cPanel VPS. If you have more accounts, there will be an increase.
Having more than 5 accounts but less than 30 and your price will increase by ~40% for the cPanel license which means your price will be ~$5 higher.
If you have more than 30 accounts but less than 50, you will have a ~100% cPanel license increase or equivalent to ~$15.
If you have more than 50 accounts but less than 100, you will have a ~150% license price increase.
